The main reasons for stopping a gas boiler in an autonomous gas supply system
The functionality of the heating system of a private house depends on the operability of the heating equipment and the correct gas supply to it. In this article, we will look at external reasons for stopping the gas boiler when a serviceable device is not able to provide the required temperature in the room due to the low pressure of propane-butane or its complete absence at the inlet to the boiler room.
This situation can be caused by a problem with shut-off and control valves, a gas pipeline or a gas tank, and is most typical for the cold season. Below we will discuss each case in detail.
Reducer failure
The reducer is designed to adjust and maintain the required pressure in the system. Flooding and, as a result, freezing of this device is the most common reason for stopping a gas boiler.
As a rule, the flooding of the gearbox with external water occurs as a result of improper installation, when the control valve is installed below the ground surface. In this case, atmospheric precipitation or groundwater easily enters the device and is no longer removed from there. When frost sets in, the moisture inside freezes, significantly reducing throughput or completely stopping the operation of the equipment.

Another reason for stopping the system is condensate, which falls inside the gearbox due to the temperature difference in the gas tank and the environment. In this case, moisture gradually accumulates inside and, when frozen, blocks the gas supply.
Gas pipeline damage
Mechanical damage to a gas pipeline, although rare, should not be discounted either. Especially if the pipeline was installed using cheaper PE 80 polyethylene, which is designed for natural gas. If the installation was done according to the rules, using a pipe for liquefied gas PE 100, then in this case a stoppage of the supply due to a faulty line is unlikely.
Filling up the gas tank
To understand the so-called bottling, one must initially understand what liquefied hydrocarbon gas used to gasify private facilities consists of. Actually, there are only two main components - propane and butane. In this case, propane is considered the main substance as a lighter gas. In winter, its content in the mixture should not be less than 75%. This is due to the fact that butane does not change from a liquid to a gaseous state even at a temperature of -1 ° C, while propane continues to work even at -40 ° C.
If the gas holder is not located deep enough, as a result of which the internal temperature of the vessel is negative, only one component, propane, evaporates, and liquid butane remains inside the vessel. In this case, you have to either pump out the butane accumulated in the tank, or wait for the temperature to rise so that it begins to evaporate on its own.

How to eliminate the reasons for stopping the gas boiler
To prevent the situations described above, during installation and subsequent operation of the equipment, it is necessary to adhere to the following rules:
- Install the gearbox above the ground to prevent it from flooding.
- Use a backup reducer that will allow you to repair a faulty device without interrupting the gas supply. In this case, the main gearbox must be transferred to a warm room for about an hour, then shake and drain the condensate.
- Locate the gas pipeline below the freezing level of the soil, using PE 100 pipes for its installation.
- Use a gas tank with a high neck, which will allow you to immerse it in the ground to a sufficient depth.
- Collaborate only with reliable gas suppliers who provide a mixture with a high propane content in winter. For example, on the site you can find an example of suitable products with the amount of propane and propylene of at least 80.27%, which corresponds to GOST R 22985-2003.
Why you should not save on equipment and installation
As a result, we can say that the main reasons for stopping a boiler operating on a propane-butane mixture are mistakes made during the installation of the system, or rather, the desire to save on this service. Turning to an unscrupulous organization that will offer to install a cheap gas tank, you can be left without heating at the most inopportune moment. Flooding of control valves, damage to the line, clogging of the tank - this is all a consequence of unprofessionalism during installation work. Such situations are the best proof that it is better not to save on quality.
